What Is NEET-SS 2026?

NEET-SS is a national-level eligibility-cum-ranking entrance examination conducted by NBEMS for admission to various Super Specialty medical courses.

It serves as the common entrance examination for covered DM and MCh courses and DrNB Super Specialty courses for the 2026-27 academic session.

The examination is intended for candidates who have completed, or are eligible to complete by the prescribed cut-off date, the relevant recognised postgraduate medical qualification.

Admission to the courses covered by NEET-SS is based on the applicable eligibility requirements, merit and the counselling process conducted by the designated authorities.

However, certain institutions, including AIIMS New Delhi and other AIIMS institutions offering Super Specialty programmes, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, are excluded from DM/MCh admissions through NEET-SS for the 2026-27 session, as specified in the Information Bulletin.

NEET-SS 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must carefully verify their eligibility before submitting the application form.

According to the official Information Bulletin, applicants must possess a recognised postgraduate medical degree or provisional pass certificate in an eligible feeder specialty.

The accepted qualifications include:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • Master of Surgery (MS).
  • Diplomate of National Board (DNB).
  • An equivalent recognised postgraduate medical qualification, where applicable.

Candidates who are likely to obtain the required qualification by January 31, 2027, may also apply, provided they meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

Eligibility depends on the feeder specialty prescribed for the particular Super Specialty course. Not every postgraduate medical qualification makes a candidate eligible for every DM, MCh or DrNB programme.

Candidates should therefore check Annexure A and Annexure B of the official Information Bulletin to identify the relevant feeder qualifications and courses.

The application process and eligibility verification are separate matters. NBEMS may cancel the candidature or result if a candidate is subsequently found ineligible.

NEET-SS 2026 Application Fee

The examination fee is 3,500 per question-paper group.

Candidates intending to appear in more than one eligible group must pay the examination fee separately for each group.

Number of question-paper groupsTotal examination fee
One group3,500
Two groups7,000
Three groups10,500

For example, a candidate eligible to appear in both the Medical Group and Paediatrics Group would have to pay ₹7,000 in total.

Candidates should select their examination groups according to their eligible feeder specialty and intended Super Specialty courses.

The fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred or carried forward to a future examination. The bulletin also states that fees may be forfeited if a candidate remains absent or is declared ineligible.

NEET-SS 2026 Exam Pattern

NBEMS will conduct NEET-SS 2026 as a computer-based examination using a group-based question-paper system.

The principal examination details are as follows:

Each section is time-bound. Candidates cannot proceed to the next section before the allotted time for the previous section has ended. Once a section’s time is over, candidates cannot return to review its questions or change their responses.

The question-paper group that a candidate must select depends on the eligible postgraduate feeder specialty and the Super Specialty course being targeted. Candidates should consult the official group-wise examination scheme before selecting their papers.

NEET-SS 2026 Admit Card

NBEMS has scheduled the release of NEET-SS 2026 admit cards for December 7, 2026.

Candidates should download their admit cards from the official NBEMS website once they are available. They should carefully check the examination date, shift, reporting time, test centre, and instructions printed on the document.

The admit card is an essential examination document. Candidates should follow the prescribed identity-verification and reporting procedures at the examination centre.

The announcement of the admit card date does not guarantee eligibility. NBEMS retains the right to withdraw permission to appear if a candidate is found ineligible.

NEET-SS 2026 Result and Counselling

According to the official Information Bulletin, NEET-SS 2026 results are expected to be declared by January 12, 2027. Candidates can check the result on the official NBEMS website.

Candidates placed at or above the 50th percentile in their respective question-paper group will be declared qualified, subject to the applicable provisions of the bulletin.

Qualifying the examination does not automatically guarantee admission to a Super Specialty course. Admission depends on merit, eligibility, seat availability, document verification and the applicable admission rules.

NBEMS conducts the examination, declares the result, and forwards the result to the designated counselling authority. It does not conduct counselling or allot Super Specialty seats.

For covered DrNB Super Specialty courses, counselling is conducted through the common counselling process overseen by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Candidates should follow official counselling notifications for registration, choice filling, seat allotment and admission procedures.
